A little bit about Deakin

The major campus for Deakin is in Burwood, a suburb in Melbourne. Deakin also has Waurn Ponds & Waterfront campuses in Geelong as well as a Warrnambool campus.

We have reviews across a range of topics, with plenty across humanities, law, business, education, health and science.

Some of the advice that students give in their reviews include:
participate in any group you can (class, clubs, society, etc);
making friends makes group work easier;
ask as many questions to tutors and lecturers, course advisors, etc;
get into university life as much as you can;
watch out for parking;
don't forget, you're there to study and grades can matter for grad positions.

You can find out more about how Deakin is as a uni by reading the reviews below.

It’s a very straight forward course, can be kind of boring at times but I suppose that’s normal, you get what you get

The positive aspects are the flexibility and generality of the course, completing commerce allows me to venture into areas such as economics, accounting, business etc.

Negatives however is that to complete the course you have to complete units that you may not necessarily have been highly interested in

My advice to future students is: Highly recommend applying to a general course such as commerce if you are unsure of which career you wish to pursue but are sure of an area such as commerce in which you're interested in

Positive: detailed, broad, a variety of options to choose from in terms of majoring, online studying available

Negative: none

My advice to future students is: Only study online if you are organised and can manage your time properly

Positive - Current and relevant course content, able to build knowledge, technical skills and develop on a personal and professional level. Able to study online, with support from lecturers and tutors.

My advice to future students is: It takes constant dedication, you need to be self motivated, but you can develop this along the way. It is achievable and you will learn more than what you anticipate. You get out of it what you put in. It does take dedication, but it pays off. A commerce degree opens up possibilities.

Positives: 1. Alot of units to pick from - many options from commerce, wide range from finance, eco, marketing eyc 2. Very Structured - most units very defined. Clear and understandable pass rate
3. Good teachers. Very knowledgable

Negatives: 1. Hurdle requirements for nearly every unit. High failure rate
2. Too much competition, many people doing the same course
3. Too generic, not enough changed being made to adapt to the needs of commerce for the future

My advice to future students is: Study hard and make the most of univerisity while you can
