Positives: The teaching quality, support and learning content

Negatives: Lack of job prospects and not made aware of the lack jobs

My advice to future students: Check job prospects and ensure you know what you want to do at the end of your degree before starting

Positives: I major in Sports Science and Human Biology, the positive aspects are the sports science units and facilities. The university itself is very supportive and easy going. The lectures and tutorials are also enjoyable.

Negatives: The negative aspect is the fact that choosing Bachelor of Science (3 years) with two majors is very limited. You don’t get the practical included from the sports science and by the end of the degree, you don’t feel confident enough to actually do personal training as an example. As a basis to entry for other courses, it’s not too bad. And for the Human biology side, it is also limited, you don’t feel ready and qualified to get into laboratory based jobs and it’s also not accredited. Since you didn’t do enough units and the course itself is too broad. If I went back in time or had the choice again, I would choose a specific course in order for it to be more specialised. Either I would do Sports Science at ECU, or Laboratory Medicine at Curtin since its accredited there and includes practical work experiences, which most jobs require these days

My advice to future students is: Try to figure out your interests earlier on, and do a more specialised course at the right uni, in order to have higher chances of getting jobs. And if possible make sure the course is accredited or has practical/work experience included. And it doesn’t matter if it’s an extra year, as it will be better than wasting 2-3 years on the wrong degree
