Course Description

Nursing at JCU has a distinctive rural, regional and tropical focus that you will not find anywhere else in Australia. The course offers:

Unique skills: Gain valuable experience in rural and remote health settings and understand the health needs of diverse communities including those of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Early clinical experience: Develop clinical skills right from your first year with placements in our network of partner hospitals, health centres and community facilities around northern Queensland.

First-class practical skills: With over 800 hours of professional experience placements throughout your course, you’ll graduate with work-ready skills for a range of health settings in cities, towns or remote regions.

Quality teaching: Many teaching staff are active researchers. JCU is home to the Centre for Nursing and Midwifery Research, and the WHO Collaborating Centre for Nursing and Midwifery Education and Research Capacity Building.

Career development: Once you are working as a registered nurse you can enhance your education qualifications with our Honours or postgraduate courses.
