Course Description

Studying Conservation and Wildlife Biology will teach you the technical skills and knowledge that you need to help manage and preserve fragile ecosystems and endangered species and communities. You will achieve this through studies in ecology, genetics, evolutionary biology and conservation and wildlife management. You will be immersed in wildlife research through case studies and field experience and gain an understanding of the social, political and economic context in which conservation policy is developed.

You can get involved in MUENSA (Murdoch University Environmental Students’ Association), join professional associations such as the Ecological Society of Australia as a student member, volunteer for conservation projects and support clubs such as the Western Australian Naturalists’ Club. As part of your studies you can experience even more of the natural world by studying overseas through Murdoch’s Exchange Program.

Depending on the career you would like to pursue, you could expand your prospects with a double major. This degree makes an excellent double major with Animal Health, Biological Sciences, Environmental Management and Sustainability, Environmental Science, Marine Science, Molecular Biology or Sustainable Development.

When you graduate, you’ll have the skills and experience you need to take on challenging roles in wildlife ecology, landscape and vegetation management, biodiversity conservation, animal biology and park management. With the right combination of units, you could also work in the fields of environmental education, journalism or law.

Really enjoy the course. Better then I expected. I am very excited to finish after one more year and hopefully attain a full time job as a park ranger or a park managment role

The negative is that the subjects you have to do first year are kind of boring. The positive is that a lot of the other courses are a field I'm very interested in.

My advice to future students is: Just get through first year and it'll get more fun.
