Positives: LNG market is booming in Australia specially up north lot of new LNG projects with major operators Icythys, woodside, exxonmobil, chevron, haliburton and shell. Middle east countries always in demand for Petroleum Engineers. Well it’s a good specialisation specially for one who want to go in upstream oil and gas sector.
Negatives: The line is bit specialised if someone not experienced in Oil and Gas sector hard to get entry and with this degree no one hires in other related sector like offshore and chemical plants. My suggestion is to go in this sector if you have gained some experience so that you can use of qualifications and experience both.
My advice to future students is: Analyse your degree, past experience and wish to pursue. You may have to live in remote areas if you get successful after degree. Well, it’s one of the most lucrative sector always. I suggest you to check course contents also whether it’s updated to the current requirements or operations and also the professor experience before taking any step.
