Course Description

The UNSW Medicine program has a curriculum where medical science and clinical disciplines are highly integrated to ensure an optimum learning experience.

UNSW Medicine has developed an innovative six year, three Phase undergraduate Medicine program. The program leads to the awards of Bachelor of Medical Studies/Doctor of Medicine (BMed/MD).

The program has been developed to reflect dramatic changes in the environment of medical practice to meet:

changing community expectations of doctors
major shifts in the patters of health and disease, such as the increased burden on society caused by chronic illness
a huge expansion of knowledge in the biomedical sciences
the information technology revolution allowing access to expanding sources of information

Positives: - good clinical exposure
- helpful tutors, willing to go the extra mile and take the time to ensure we know what we need to know
- adequate assessments (not too much- the course is hard enough as is, but enough to know how good we are doing)

negative: faculty is not always transparent. too much competitiveness, excess emphasis on written exams

The first two years are hard theory with just a sprinkling of clinical work, so if you expect to get your hands dirty straight away, this can be really discouraging, The work can be gruelling and maintaining a balance between work and social life can be tricky.
