Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Commerce courses

Generally, Business Management and Commerce courses (like a Bachelor of Business or a Bachelor of Commerce) aim to provide students with business skills for a wide range of industries and environments. Often these courses are structured to offer future students a choice in a great variety of specialisations (see majors below), once they have completed core units.

Some universities look to include internships while others focus on a more theoretical footing. One thing is for certain, there's no shortage of examples for teachers to discuss, incorporate and showcase for students to prepare them for a career in this area. Business deals, financial results and misdemeanours make global headlines and have dedicated press analysing and covering their moves.

While parts of the learning can come from well developed theories that stand the test of time, others parts are more dynamic. There are many cases where well established business theories have been challenged and changed the dynamics that have applied to institutions and industries for decades. For example, you can look up the technological disruption to the Media industry.

There's a large portion of students studying business or business related fields (around 20% of students around Australia according to previous Department of Education figures). It also appears, given the popularity, the job market is very competitive for graduates in this area. This is highlighted by the responses we receive where most "Job Prospects" ratings of courses by students fall below the overall rating of the course.

Careers can be extremely varied, we have listed some common ones, but the list could go on for a very long time if we collated all of them. The roles can vary in the technical requirements, where some focus more on soft skills, while others require more analytical techniques.

Not all business courses appear to be the same and none will guarantee you certain success in the future. Make sure to do your research and pay attention to the student advice below.
